Have you been hearing about 5G coverage? While the transition from 4G to 5G is exciting for consumers, it also provides an increase in opportunities within the telecommunications industry. This isn’t a one-year opportunity, but one that will only continue to grow in the years ahead.
This transition means increased opportunities for businesses and contractors. While some cities are now testing 5G capabilities, it is not yet widespread and consumers in the testing areas can find the coverage isn’t consistent.
The reason why is simple: much of the infrastructure still needs to be built. The process, however, is not simple. For example, cell tower sites will need to be upgraded to meet the needs and demands of 5G coverage. Of course each site location will vary because of variances in usage by consumers. For example, the demand on a 5G site will be different in a rural area than an urban area.
The length of time to proceed with these upgrades and additions will also vary. Some companies may choose to slowly upgrade. Others may immediately upgrade everything. All, however, will require ongoing maintenance. Regardless, this is a long-term initiative not an overnight achievement.
These infrastructure investments, in turn, require an increased workforce. That means current workers will have to be trained further and new workers will need to be recruited and trained to develop skilled cell tower crews. As a result, it is important to stay connected with those training facilities that develop these workers as well as your clients to provide opportunities for their current crews to develop skills. One of these programs, for example, focuses on training military veterans.
It may also mean changes in technology used for the 5G towers and climbing as well as continual safety initiatives to keep these workers safe in their outdoor working environments. While it may be a lot of information for you and your clients to stay current on, we encourage you to learn more about the status of 5G nationwide as well as in your client’s service areas.
Furthermore, talk with your clients about their short and long-term strategies related to 5G coverage. Also, stay active in local, regional and national municipal conversations about 5G opportunities and growth within these service areas.
Here at USA Telecom Insurance Services, we welcome any conversation you wish to start with us about 5G opportunities and the specialized insurance we have available for this growing area within the telecommunications industry.
